Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon recorded his 200th winner under both codes in this country when Hazy Tom won at Warwick yesterday.
The six-year-old gelding, a 15-8 shot, got off the mark over fences by making all the running under Noel Fehily to beat Cantlow by three-quarters of a length in the two-mile novices’ chase.
And Longsdon didn’t take long in making it 201 winners with Venceremos landing the mares’ bumper by a short head at 20-1 with Kielan Woods aboard to complete a 48-1 double for the yard.
Longsdon has now posted 197 winners over jumps and four on the Flat.
He said: “To be honest, it was a slight relief that Hazy Tom won. He has been a very frustrating horse since he won his two hurdle races last season.
“We decided to go chasing at the beginning of the season, but it has really taken a long time to get his act together and we almost scrapped the chasing plans a week or so ago.
“Noel gave him a great ride, and won a little cosily.”
And he added of Venceremos: “As I have always said, it takes a very good horse to win under a penalty, and she has done just that.”
