KARL Outen will return to Iffley Road on Wednesday when Oxford University host the Major Stanley’s XV.
The lock, who was man-of-the-match for Oxford in last year’s Varsity victory over Cambridge, could partner Chinnor’s Andy Smith.
Former Blues, flanker Richie Woods, centre Baz Perkins and wing Luke Jones also line up.
Will Brock and Will Jones, sevens internationals for Australia and Wales respectively, will be in the back line.
The chief interest will be provided by four Samoa internationals, whose names have yet to be confirmed.
Having produced a far better showing in Sunday’s 29-15 defeat to Russia, the Stanley’s clash provides John Carter’s Dark Blues with a great chance to record their first victory of the season.
- FORMER Oxford University prop Ricky Lutton made his debut for Ulster in their RaboDirect Pro 12 victory over Edinburgh.
Lutton, who won three Blues between 2007 and 2009, came off the bench as leaders Ulster won 45-20.
The 26-year-old tweeted: “Thanks for all the messages over the last few days.
“Was great to (get) my first cap at ravenhill and get the bp win as well. #stillbuzzing”.
- ABINGDON School pupil Theo Brophy Clews is relishing the challenge ahead after being fast-tracked into the England Under 17 squad.
Brophy Clews, 15, is on the books of London Irish and while the under 17s do not play formal internationals, he hopes to make his England Under 16 debut this season.
“I am very honoured to be given this opportunity and I’m looking forward to the challenge it will bring,” he said.
“I feel playing at the highest level will really help me to progress my rugby.”
Peter Coke, the school’s director of rugby, said: “I am delighted with Theo’s call-up , it is a tremendous achievement.
“We will encourage him to keep his feet on the ground and ensure he retains the hard work ethic that has got him to this stage.”
