LONDON Welsh will play two more fixtures at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium, the Aviva Premiership club confirmed yesterday.
The Exiles will host Grenoble and Cavalieri Prato in the Amlin Challenge Cup at the Kassam after failing to get a new safety certificate for their Richmond ground in time.
Grenoble visit Welsh on Saturday, December 15 (1.30pm), while the Cavalieri game will take place between January 10 and 13.
Welsh had scheduled the two matches at Old Deer Park to maintain their links with the venue and reward their London-based fans.
It is also expected that they will have lower attendances than the Exiles’ Premiership matches and the visit of Stade Francais on October 13.
“We apologise for any inconvenience but, sadly, this has been caused by health and safety issues relating to the grandstand at Old Deer Park,” said managing director John Taylor.
“We had hoped to be able to get a new safety certificate in time for these games, but that has proved impossible.
“We hope our London-based supporters understand and would like to remind everybody that coaches organised through the supporters’ club go from Old Deer Park to the Kassam Stadium on every match day.”
The Exiles host Bath in the Aviva Premiership at 3pm tomorrow on a bumper day of rugby in Oxford.
An hour earlier, Oxford University kick off against Russia at Iffley Road.
