WESTMINSTER headed a whole series of shock results in the first round of the North Berks Charity Shield, writes PHIL ANNETS.
The Division 4 side stunned Division 1 hosts Long Wittenham Athletic 2-0 thanks to goals from Dean Staniford and George Hartless.
Another top-flight side, Sutton Courtenay, were also beaten by Division 4 opposition in Grove Rangers, who triumphed 3-1 thanks to Mat Cramp (2) and Dave Summersbee. James Fletcher netted for the visitors.
Saxton Rovers lost 4-1 to Division 2 hosts Ardington & Lockinge, thanks to a Jamie Clark hat-trick and a Chris Hogan strike. Kyle Allsworth scored for Saxton.
Yet another Division 1 side biting the dust were Childrey United, who crashed 4-1 at Dorchester, from Division 2.
The hosts scored through a Billy Warner double plus efforts from Dan Brind and Jamie Fleet. Dan Crawford replied for Childrey.
Warborough United, from Division 4, won 4-3 at Division 2 side Steventon. James Phillips bagged a brace alongside Pat O’Donnell and Tim Carvill, while Dan Mc-Ardle, Justin Cochran and Andy Horn replied.
Turnpike Sports took their Division 1 opponents Harwell International down to the wire, bowing out 2-0 on penalties with the sides drawing 2-2 after extra time.
Matt Byrne and Lee Wilson scored Turnpike’s goals.
AFC Wallingford won 6-1 at home to East Hendred, Cezar Grosu and Elliott Westwood scoring two.
Ashley Searle and Carmel Tonna also netted, while Riccardo Riccio replied.
The village derby was settled by a Pete Ashman treble as Division 1 side Benson AFC won 3-0 at home to Benson Lions, from Division 2.
Luke Ingram’s hat-trick saw hosts Wootton & Dry Sandford pip Coleshill United.
Sam Nicholls also scored in the 4-3 win with Dan Bradbury, Jamie Hopgood and Richard Evans replying.
The biggest margin of victory came at Hagbourne United where fellow Division 3 opponents Blewbury romped home 9-0 thanks to an Adam Spurrett four-timer.
Mitch Barton, Rob Pritchard, Dan Knapp, Nathan Hill and Matt Aplin also scored.
James Bishop went one better for Hanney United, grabbing five goals in their 8-1 win at Appleton Stars.
Richard Hughes, Paul Freeman and Andy Hope also scored.
Mike Bishop replied.
Jonny Lloyd struck twice and Tom Coates once as Marcham won 3-1 at Challow, who scored through Eammon McGowran.
