Olympians Andy Triggs Hodge and Lawrence Clarke plus Paralympian Lily van der Broecke head the candidates for the 2012 Oxfordshire Sports Awards.

The trio are the stand-out names on the short-list for this year’s honours, which is announced today.

Oxford-based Triggs Hodge, who won gold in the rowing men’s four, and Clarke, from Christmas Common, near Watlington, who finished fourth in the 110m hurdles final, are nominated for the sportsman of the year award.

England Lions cricketer Jack Brooks comp-letes the three-man list, which in every case was drawn up from nominations received.

Van Der Broecke, from Headington, tops the candidates in the sportswoman of the year category after coxing the mixed four to gold in the Paralympics in London.

She is joined by Oxfordshire ladies’ bowls champion Katherine Hawes, from Oxford City & County BC, and Great Bourton triathlete Dawn Williams.

A variety of sports will battle it out for honours in the event, run by the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership with the Oxford Mail as official media partners.

The team of the year sees three promoted sides battle for glory.

Oxford City’s footballers, who went up to Blue Square Bet North for the first time in their history, are up against Bicester Ladies’ 1st XI, who achieved back-to-back promotions into the top-flight of the Trysports Hockey League, and the Oxfordshire ladies’ cricket side, who won their division in the County Championship.

The junior sportsperson category sees rifle shooting up against karting and skater hockey.

Holly Lay was crowned British Under 21 air-rifle champion in 2012, despite being just 16.

Didcot karter Elliot Harvey, 11, narrowly missed out on winning the Formula 1-backed Formula Kart Stars championship, while 17-year-old Michael Wakelin, of the Banbury Bulldogs Skater Hockey Club, was called up to represent his country.

The winners will be announced at the awards night on Friday, November 23 at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium.
