Chris Wilder was thrilled to give Oxford United’s 1,800 travelling away fans something to shout about with the 3-1 win at Wycombe Wanderers.
Goals from James Constable, Tom Craddock and Johnny Mullins on Saturday clinched an important win for the U’s, who moved up three places in npower League Two to 15th.
It halted a run of six successive away league defeats and ensured they bounced straight back from a 2-0 loss at Rochdale last week.
United boss Wilder said: “I was a bit disappointed at times when we gave the ball away cheaply, but we were on the front foot all afternoon.
“It was a pressure game for us because of the result on Tuesday.
“We’ve got a big following and we wanted to reward them. Too many times we have sent them home unhappy.
“We’re here to entertain, go forward and be positive – the backing we had was ridiculous for a team that’s not won away since the first game of the season.
“There’s loads more to come from this team and we have to demand that from the players, day-in day-out.
“We’re good enough to go anywhere and get a result, because this is a difficult place to come.”
Craddock was taking his goal tally for the season to eight when he made it 2-0 early in the second half with a spectacular volley.
Craddock insisted he did not mind how the goals came, but felt it was one of his best for the club.
He said: “My first goal for Oxford a couple of years ago against Hereford won goal of the season, so I’d have to see it again.
“I’m always pleased to get on the scoresheet, it really doesn’t matter to me whether it’s two yards or 20 yards.
“It was really important as a team we bounced back from losing at Rochdale last week, thankfully we sent our fans home happy.”
