RAF Brize Norton has paid tribute to a 'superb, popular' aviator who has died.

The RAF station said: "It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Sergeant Wayne "Syd" Little, who sadly passed away on Friday October 25.

"Syd originally joined the RAF in 1991 as a Trade Group 17 data analyst and undertook a variety of tours across the UK and overseas.

"Keen on becoming aircrew he re-mustered in 2007 and became a C-130 Air Loadmaster, working on 47 Sqn, XXIV Sqn as an instructor and the Air Mobility Warfare Cell.

"He excelled in everything he did with his affable personality, professionalism, and keen sense of humour.

"All who knew him had their lives touched by him and were proud to call him their husband, Dad or friend.

"Married to Anna, he has left a massive void in his family’s lives. Passing peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family showed he was loved by all - both in and out of the Military.

"The family wish to pass on their thanks for all the messages of support they have received so far, it is very clear to them how much Syd was loved by all."

Joining tributes from other former Squadron Commanders, Group Captain James Sjoberg said: “Sgt Syd Little was a loyal and dedicated member of 47 Squadron. He was a great friend to me and the rest of the Squadron.

"As a loadmaster, he was a superb C-130 operator who trained many of the crews on the fleet in specialised tactics and electronic warfare.

"A popular and sociable member of the Squadron, he had a great sense of humour - everyone wanted to be on his crew.

"His dedication to his Squadron, his flight, and the Squadron Fox badge was only matched by his enthusiasm for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, where he could often be found in his favourite seat.”

RAF Brize Norton said: "He will be sorely missed by the whole force at RAF Brize Norton. Our thoughts remain with Syd’s family at this sad time."
