A group of young swimmers from a Wantage club have been invited to compete at a national event this summer.

Wantage White Horses Swimming Club will be represented by four swimmers at the Swim England National Summer Meet at Ponds Forge in Sheffield between July 29 to August 3.

The group consists of Ben Cooper, who will be competing in three breaststroke events, Tayla Curtis, who will compete in two breaststroke events and Gavina Semonella, who is a S14 para swimmer and will be competing in the 100m breaststroke event.

Minnie Wilkinson, the youngest of the group at 12, will be competing in the 200m individual medley.

Club head coach, Melanie Cumberland, said: "This is a fantastic achievement this year for all swimmers and the club.

"It is great to see four Wantage White Horses Swimming Club swimmers competing at these championships this year. We are all very proud of them."

The group recently undertook some long course practice at Bath University in preparation for the contest.

A volunteer run organisation, Wantage White Horses Swimming Club was established in 1978 and since then has been providing training for swimmers ranging from beginners to those competing at county and regional competitions.

The majority of the volunteers are parents of current or previous club members.

The club also offers swim trials throughout the year and continually seeks sponsorship from businesses.
