A NEW project helping people with mental health problems get back to work has launched in Littlemore.
Mental health charity Restore has opened a shop at Littlemore Mental Health Centre, in Sandford Road, that will be run by people referred by care teams. And it hopes to open a cafe once enough volunteers to help those with mental health issues have been recruited.
Littlemore Recovery Group co-ordinator Rosa Parsons said: “The project aims to build people’s confidence and skills and allow them to use those skills in a paid employment or start in education. This is the first full week we have opened with our members and everyone is very pleased.”
There are three people working at the shop but the charity hopes for more to join.
Volunteers, who must be over 18, would need to commit to at least one day a week. Full training is provided.
Staff from Oxford Health and service users at Littlemore organised the project and decorate the shop and cafe. The shop sells newspapers and magazines, groceries, toiletries, and handmade gifts and cards and is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 3pm.
Coffee is available to take away and food will be available once the cafe opens.
