TAXPAYERS across Bicester and Banbury are now paying the least to have their rubbish collected than at any time in the past 10 years.
Cherwell District Council said collections now cost households less than £50 a year.
Last year each household paid less than £1 a week for their bins to be emptied and in 2013 to 2014 they paid a total of £47.84.
Cherwell’s lead member for performance Kieron Mallon said: “As an authority we have worked hard to protect the frontline services that matter most to our residents during times of financial uncertainty.

“Initiatives such as sharing services with South Northamptonshire Council and providing increased recycling opportunities have all helped us to make the necessary financial savings while maintaining a high level of service to the taxpayer.”
The findings come after Cherwell District Council met on Monday to review the current collection service as part of a new Government Waste Framework Directive.
It was decided that no changes would be made to collection and that another review of the service will be held in five years.
