DOZENS of fitness sessions are being launched across Cherwell to help people get fit and lose weight in the new year.

Classes include self-defence and martial arts at Taurus Gym, Kidlington, running and circuits at Bicester’s Bure Park Primary School, boxfit at Banbury Boxing Club and pilates at Kirtlington Church.

Deputy leader for Cherwell District Council, George Reynolds, said: “After overindulging over the festive period one of the most common New Year’s resolutions at the beginning of January is to get fit and lose weight. We want to help people do just that and have set up a range of classes to suit the different needs, goals and abilities of individuals.

“Not everyone who wants to get fit wants to go the gym, so these classes will provide people with an alternative solution, allowing them to exercise in a fun and friendly environment.”

The classes are part of the council’s Go Active initiative, which aims to create more sporting opportunities across the area, and are funded by Sport England.

The funding means some classes are free, while others are cut-price. The most expensive is £45 for six weeks of Pilates. Call Cherwell District Council recreation and health team on 01295 221806.
