A competition to design a shirt for The British and Irish Lions ahead of their tour of Australia has been launched.

Howden Insurance, which has a branch in Bicester, is inviting individuals to create their own Canterbury Lions jersey design.

The best shirt will be brought to life and framed for the winner to take home, and they will also receive up to 30 shirts for their local team.

Andrew Morris, the branch manager at Howden Bicester, said: "Having the Howden name emblazoned on The British and Irish Lions jersey is a privilege and an honour.

"And we must earn our right to be on the iconic shirt, just as every player who’s worn it has.

“Rugby has many opportunities, and yet as a sport, faces so many challenges on and off the field - that’s why we’re so committed to helping rugby thrive in the communities we serve.”

To enter the competition, people can pick up an entry pack from a Howden branch, and submit their design online.

Mr Morris added: “With the Lions as our North Star, we’re working at a grassroots level to nurture future talent, and protect the values that help make sport an integral part of local communities.

"Values that bond and unite us, reminding us what is so special about the game. Here’s to the exciting journey that lies ahead – we can’t wait to share it with you."
