Thursday matinee and we’re sat in the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham watching the Calendar Girls. I thought well I saw the film and enjoyed it so let’s see how they do it on stage. The answer is they did it very well. Tim Firth’s excellent and comic script transfers very well to the boards and the show was one of the best I have seen.
It is interesting to note this is the biggest box office success ever at the Everyman Theatre so perhaps it isn’t me after all (see last week’s blog), perhaps it’s more the psuedo intellectual theatre snobs who turn their nose up at comedy in favour of real “theatre” and insist on staging plays that bore the audience to death and believe me I have died on many occasions in the theatre. On the stage as well as in the stalls as I recall!
Well I thoroughly recommend Calendar Girls if you want a good giggle. Nice see Charlie Dimmock in the cast, I wondered what had happened to her.
The star-studded cast also featured Sue Holderness, Letitia Dean, Gemma Craven and Hannah Waterman. Great Show.
Well this Tuesday night is the big meeting of the Kingston Bagpuize Drama Group. A pow wow called by some of us old timers who wonder what is happening to our beloved and once mighty club.
Battle lines are being drawn as we speak and a full account will be put in the next blog. Oh yes.
Now a doctor friend of mine told me of this tale of the elderly gentleman who had a full health check. After his exam the doctor asked the elderly man: "You appear to be in good health. Do you have any medical concerns you would like to ask me about?" "In fact, I do," said the old man. "After I have sex I am usually cold and chilly, and then, after I have sex with her the second time, I am usually hot and sweaty."
Later, after examining his elderly wife, the doctor said: "Everything appears to be fine. Do you have any medical concerns that you would like to discuss with me?" She replied that she had no questions or concerns.
The doctor then said to her: "Your husband had an unusual concern. He claims that he is usually cold and chilly after having sex with you the first time, and then hot and sweaty after the second time. Do you know why?"
"Oh that crazy fool," she replied. "That's because the first time is usually in Winter and the second time is in Summer."
