Our Cluedo Derby was a big success at the Village Fete last Saturday. We actually made a bit of a profit as well, which was a bonus. At Club Night next Tuesday, we will be discussing our 60th anniversary production for November. There will be a gala evening on the final night of the play with entertainment and the whole thing will be called 'A Brief Encounter With Noel Coward' and will feature recitations or songs (perhaps) and possibly short extracts from the master's plays in the first half, and a production of Still Life in the second half.' Still Life was the first production the newly-formed Kingston Bagpuize Drama Group put on 60 years ago and was used as the basis of the film ‘Brief Encounter’. Hence the title of the evening-get it?
Went to see ‘Spider’s Web’ last week at the Playhouse. A who-done-it by Agatha Christie. {She was the author-not the culprit you understand).
The Playhouse seem to be putting more main stream theatre on lately I’m happy to report. A good solid play with the sort of set you can imagine, big old house, several suspects, batty housekeeper-you know the type of thing. Great-loved it.
One of the stars was Denis Lill who plays the surgeon Mr Rose in The Royal on ITV on Sunday nights. Pity I couldn’t go back stage to meet him I could have had a word about my back… Did have a word with my mate Chuffer last week, remember him? The Don Juan of the geriatric set? Alas there is no further news of Marylinn (Yes it is spelt like that). Shame as that brief span of passion created much interest at the time. Never mind it’s summer and there is still time for something to happen on the amour front. Keep watching this space folks.
Now a good friend of mine is in hospital and told me of this episode that occurred recently.
A man rings his local hospital and this conversation follows:- “Hello, I’d like some information on a patient, Mr Kelly. He was admitted last week with chest pains and I just want to know if his condition has deteriorated, stabilised or improved?”
“Do you know which ward he is in?2 “Yes, ward P, room 2B.”
“I’ll just put you through to the nurse station.”
“Hello ward, P how can I help?”
“I would just like some information on a patient, Mr Kelly, I was wondering if his condition has deteriorated, stabilised or improved?”
“I’ll just check his notes…..Well I’m pleased to say Mr Kelly’s condition has improved. He has regained his appetite, his temperature has steadied and after some routine checks tonight, he should be well enough to go home tomorrow.
“Oh that’s wonderful news. I’m so happy thank you very, very much!”
“You seem very relieved, are you a close friend or relative?”
“No I’m Mr Kelly in room 2B, but nobody tells you anything in here….!
