Another week passes and the group is busy not only rehearsing three plays but also minds are concentrating on our stand at the village fete (27th June- Kingston House. We thought we could stage a Murder Mystery using the theme a ’Fete Worse Than Death’ (good grief!) and ideas have been abounding. Well it all remains to be sorted at the next committee meeting and the AGM, which is looming on the horizon.

Of course rehearsals have also been continuing for ‘Memory of Water’ although director Kate is still recovering form a nasty bout of glandular fever, the players are managing a substantial section of Act 1 almost without books.

Our ODN festival entry ‘Kill Jill’ I am told is also coming on a pace and we all are looking forward to the village preview in May. More details nearer the time.

To things more social and still smarting from the humiliating defeat in the recent Boffins Quiz we have been sharpening our skills at the monthly quiz at The Plough in nearby West Hanney and the weekly quizzes at the Swan in Faringdon and The Fir Tree on the Iffley Road. If you think how sad it is that someone attends so many pub quizzes, you’d be right. In fairness I am quizmaster at the Fir Tree. OK that’s it I promise not to mention pub quizzes again.

On to the subject of fitness. I am told I need to walk 2 miles every day but my grandfather started walking five miles a day at 83, he’s now he’s 98 years old and we have no idea where he is. So what is the answer? We read all sorts of advice in the press and the following week it’s all different. Wine is good for you…wine is not good for you…etc., etc..Everything in moderation that’s what I say, a line of thinking that should be taken on board by out glorious ministers when it comes to filling in their expense sheets I reckon. Don’t get me started on that one.

When I was gainfully employed I kept fit jumping in and out of cars, running up and down the stairs and generally moving about but it all fell to dust on retirement. I did join a fitness club some years ago, didn’t lose any weight, apparently you have to go there…
