ARE you a fan of quiz shows? Do you enjoy ticking boxes in magazines asking about your likes and dislikes?
And how about the television? They are always encouraging you to twitter or email them.
Plus there’s the National Lottery, all holding out a promise of a fortune. And so it is for some.
However, you Oxfordshire people can now take part in something where everyone is a winner.
Too good to be true you say? Well, actually no, although, to be fair, some of you may have to wait a long time to reap the benefit. But I can assure you that many will. And who is offering you this opportunity? You will never guess. It is Oxfordshire County Council. WOWEE!
Now that is something to get excited about.
Oxfordshire Unlimited, the county’s only user-led organisation of physically and sensory-impaired people is funded by Oxfordshire County Council to represent the views, interests and needs of people with any physical or sensory impairment. And it has hit the jackpot.
This successful organisation has been invited, by the county council, to work with them to produce a new strategy to guide their spending on physically disabled people.
Members are experienced experts on what disabled people need to lives as normal life as possible.
Ah, I hear you say, but I am not disabled so what is it to me? Well, in case this fact has missed you, we all get older and with that comes limited mobility. Plus, illness or accident can strike any time, leaving you with an impairment. So, yes, you are relevant to this. And you may also have relatives, friends and neighbours who will benefit right now, so help us to get their views too.
Oxfordshire County Council may have learned from the massive protest about library closures that its residents have very clear views about how to spend the money they put into the budget. So this opportunity is too good to miss. It will guide the officers deciding how and where to spend its money for disabled people, whether it’s on community transport, equipment, home care or treatment.
Unlimited is helping with the strategy by running the consultation. It will produce a questionnaire, running workshops in different areas during April and May and seeking views – at oxfordshireunlimited.org.
You can email us either to ask about this project or offer your views (0845 121 4112). Questionnaires will be sent on request.
Can you help? Will you? Come on, surprise me! Bombard me with requests!
Show the council that we care about how our money is spent which could set a precedent. Oxfordshire Unlimited as a trend-setter. Sounds good to me.
