WHAT I’M CALLED: Helen Statham MY AGE IN YEARS: 26 – although apparently I can pass for 15 as I was asked whether I would like a ‘half’ on the bus quite recently!
WHAT I DO: I manage the O3 Gallery at Oxford Castle Quarter. This entails programming and curating exhibitions and events as well as being responsible for the general running of the gallery.
It’s an incredible space and I feel very lucky to be able to work in such an inspiring venue. I’ve also done a bit of arts broadcasting journalism.
WHERE I LIVE: North Oxford. Although I’m originally from Durham in North East England – which is detectable as soon as I speak!
WHO I LOVE: I love my parents dearly. I also have an incredible aunt and uncle who live next door to my parents. I love my friends who have always been like my extended family. And last but by no means least; I love my giant whippet, Lyra.
HAPPIEST YEAR: I have a feeling this year is going to be a pretty awesome one.
DARKEST MOMENT: As a little girl I was diagnosed with a rare and life threatening kidney disease. However, I responded positively to chemotherapy and lived to tell the tale.
PROUDEST BOAST: I’m not much of a boaster although I do feel proud of my academic and professional achievements. I’m also unashamedly proud of my whistling ability!
BIGGEST REGRET: I don’t regret. There’s absolutely no point. All you can do is respond to a decision and then bear it in mind when moving forward. Substantial dwelling on past mistakes is simply a waste of time.
WORST WEAKNESS: Bacon.
LESSONS LEARNED: A spoon cannot be used in ubstitute for a screwdriver. This is something I learned very recently when moving into my new flat. Butter and fish knives are also not viable tools. Secondly, always ignore the instruction diagrams when constructing pre-packed furniture.
DULLEST JOB: Washing up.
GREATEST SHAME: My fashion sense in the mid-90s.
LIFELONG HERO: My Nana, a very vivacious and charismatic lady.
OLDEST FRIEND: A very special person called Rachel who has looked out for me since I was about three-years-old.
WIDEST SMILE: Watching the sun go down on St David’s Head in Pembrokeshire, South West Wales.
FAVOURITE DREAM: Releasing 99 red balloons into a crimson sky.
