AN EAST Oxford landlord who was letting out an unsafe house cluttered with furniture has been fined over £15,000.
The landlord, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found to be running the Kames Close house illegally in August 2017. They were fined £15,624.
Furniture was found to be obstructing exits and two of three fire alarms in the property were broken. The stairs were not fire protected and there was no fire door in the kitchen.
New powers given to councils in last year mean they can directly fine landlords. The city council said new measures are 'deterring landlords from flouting rules'.
