RESIDENTS in East Oxford are being asked to have their say on the future of an out-of-use bowls green.

Oxford City Council is consulting until Friday on what to do with the Florence Park land, which has been empty since 2016.

The authority's website states: "A decision needs to be made on the future use of this attractive space.

"To ensure it meets the needs of the local community we would like to ask your opinion about how you would like to see it used."

It added the consultation was also to gather views on the miniature golf course at Florence Park and how often it is used.

The park, which is located beteen Iffley Road and Cowley Road, opened in 1934 after the land was presented to the city by councillor Frederick Moss in memory of his sister Florence.

As well as miniature golf the public space also has a zip wire, tennis courts and wildflower area.

Another piece of local bowling heritage was lost recently when Florence Park Bowling Club's clubhouse, on nearby Cornwallis Road, was knocked down after it was deemed to pose a safety hazard by Oxford City Council. The building, which dated back to the 1950s, had already been condemned as a result of a leaky roof and had been out of action for many years but was judged to need demolition with 'immediate effect' last summer.

The consultation, which opened on February 1, is available via the city council website. The results will be published on April 1.
