OXFORD West and Abingdon MP Layla Moran has urged the Government to halt cuts to police budgets.
Ms Moran told the House of Commons about how a resident in Yarnton contacted her to say that, although he felt Thames Valley Police do 'a tremendous job with very limited resources', he was concerned they were unable to investigate a string of break-ins in the village.
Speaking after the debate, Ms Moran said: “Residents in Abingdon, Kidlington, Oxford and across the county know what a fantastic job our local police officers do, especially given the financial pressures they are under.
“It should be a wake-up call for the Government that residents are now becoming sceptical of the ability of the police to investigate crime owing to budget cuts.
"I’ve been contacted by residents who are concerned about issues like vandalism at Abbey Meadow play park in Abingdon and ongoing anti-social behaviour in Kidlington village centre. Government should give Thames Valley Police the funding it needs."
Chancellor Philip Hammond will announce his Budget – and any further cuts or boosts to public services – on November 22.
