A CHARITY golf day has managed to raise £1,000 for The Hummingbird Cancer Support and Therapy Centre near Bicester.

Staff at the Bicester Whitley Stimpson accountants office clubbed together to take on the course at Frilford Heath Golf Club.

It was part of their annual charity golf tournament and this year they chose the cancer support centre in Launton, near Bicester, to benefit from its fundraising.

Stephen Payne, director at the Bicester Whitley Stimpson office, said: “Our golfing friends went out of their way to make this event a success.

"The Hummingbird Centre is the only one of its kind in the Bicester area and does a wonderful job in helping and supporting people suffering from cancer or who have finished their treatment and need further support."

The charity golf day was staged by the accountancy team, which also has offices in Witney and Banbury, in September.

The golfing team have since handed over the £1,000 to founder of The Hummingbird Cancer Support and Therapy Centre Mechelle Harris.

The money will go towards support the centre, run solely on donations and the support of volunteers, to continue providing services for those with cancer or a family member of those with cancer.

Last year the Bicester Whitley Stimpson team drove the fairways to raise £1,000 for an Oxford charity Restore, based in East Oxford, which supports people with mental health illnesses.
