A SECONDARY school biology block is to be revamped and converted into food technology classrooms and a new social space.
King Alfred’s Academy in Wantage has unveiled the plans for its Centre Site on Portway.
Having recently built a new dedicated science block, the school is now planning to refurbish its old one.
In a planning application to Vale of White Horse District Council the school said it wanted to create new ‘open social space and offices’, a food technology room, classroom and office on the first floor, with preparation and storage space.
A new lift will help to also make the building fully accessible.
As with other recent revamps on Centre Site, the designers said old steel-framed glazing would be replaced with ‘more insulative aluminium framed windows’, and timber weatherboard replaced with a more modern insulated aluminium panel.
The architects said the new block would be in keeping with King Alfred’s aim to provide ‘exemplary facilities’ and ‘a comfortable and inclusive environment’.
