A RALLY supporting a campaign for a £10 an hour wage in Oxford will be held on Monday.

The Oxford City Living Wage Campaign is calling for all workers who work within the city council's boundary to be paid at least that wage to combat the high cost of living.

Its first event at Oxford Town Hall will be held from 7pm and speakers will include Ronnie Draper, the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers' Union's general secretary.

His union has recently been involved in an industrial dispute with fast food giant McDonald's.

A Deliveroo rider, Callum Cant, who has been involved in industrial disputes to get better pay and conditions for that company's riders will also speak.

The founder of the Everyday Bigotry Project and co-founder of the Oxford Labour Muslim Network, Shaista Aziz, will also attend.

GMB shop steward and ASDA worker Lara McNeill will also be there.

The event marks the beginning of Living Wage Week. As part of that, the Living Wage Foundation will announced its revised living wage rate.

Currently workers who are paid that receive £7.50 an hour, while Oxford City Council supports a higher rate of £9.26 an hour. That pays at least that to its staff and its contractors must do the same.

The National Living Wage, formerly the minimum wage, is £7.20 for over 25s.
