EVERY house in Blackbird Leys will receive a visit from the police as officers seek to find out the issues people want addressed on the estate.

Sergeant Neil Applegarth, the boss of Thames Valley Police's neighbourhood team in Blackbird Leys, said 200 doors have currently been knocked on as part of the initiative.

Sgt Applegarth said 70 per cent of people have answered the door and the conversations had so far 'have been very positive.'

Officers have reported that the priorities of residents identified so far include drugs and anti-social behaviour.

Up to 40 per cent of people said they are concerned about drugs with only 10 per cent concerned about anti-social behaviour.

Some seven per cent of people have said they were not interested in participating.

Oxfordshire County Council will be assisting Thames Valley Police with the continuation of the exercise.

The force is also holding 'coffee with Cops' mornings for residents to raise issues over a cup of coffee with local officers.

Earlier this year Sgt Applegarth, who has been in the role since June 1, said he hoped to boost TVP's visibility on the estate and give the office a new lease of life.

He said: "In terms of disrupting gang activity, the main thing you can do is get the knowledge that's out there in the community. You can only do that through building trust."

Officers have also been playing football against community teams and is planing to put up a sign to show when the team are in the hub in Blackbird Leys road.
