AN archaeological investigation has begun at a secondary school.
Experts will be looking beneath the playing fields behind King Alfred’s Academy West Site on Challow Road, Wantage.
The examination is in advance of building new classrooms on part of the playing fields.
In a report to Vale of White Horse District Council, the company Cotswold Archaeology explained that it was planning a ‘watching brief’, whereby it would would monitor the development groundworks and ‘identify, investigate and record all significant buried archaeological deposits’.
In the report, the company mentioned Wantage’s Roman and Medieval settlements as potential significant.
