A CONTROVERSIAL plan which neighbours and councillors say will overload traffic onto a quiet side street in Oxford could get the go-ahead.

As part of the application a five-bedroom house in Dean Court Road in Cumnor would be bulldozed and then eight two-bedroom flats in two buildings and a separate five-bedroom home would be built in its place.

But Cumnor Parish Council said it worries two neighbours in Dean Court Road would be affected, with light and noise pollution being caused by the new development.

It also said other neighbours would lose privacy and that the width of a new driveway would be too small.

Cumnor Liberal Democrat district councillor Judy Roberts said she worried the parking plans for the site would cause ‘obstruction’ for other residents.

Another 16 neighbours objected to the project, decrying a possible increase in traffic, noise and pollution.

Vale of White Horse District Council planning officers said they believed the plan would fit with the current buildings in that part of Cumnor.

As part of the development the first building would have three floors, with the second having two storeys.

The homes would sit on a slope down Dean Court Road.

The first building of flats would be lower than the second and officers said they would ‘sit comfortably’ in the surroundings.

Planning officers said the site is ‘within a sustainable location’ and that the proposal would have benefits by providing more housing and jobs for builders.

Although ‘there would be a change to the environment’ if it is built, officers said they feel this ‘would not be significantly harmful’.

Vale of White Horse District Council’s planning committee will be asked to approve the plan at a meeting on Wednesday from 6.30pm at the Ridgeway in Wantage.
