AWARD-WINNING authors will read their work at an Oxford college to highlight the plight of refugees.

AL Kennedy and Roma Tearne will read from The Country of Refuge, which has been edited by Lucy Popescu, at St Anne's College in Woodstock Road, from 6pm to 8pm tomorrow.

Dr Youssef El-Gingihy will be talking about his experience as a GP in Tower Hamlets in London while Oxford GP Dr Helen Salisbury will talk about her voluntary work at Campsfield House detention centre.

During the second half of the evening, writer and broadcaster Gillian Reynolds will open a discussion on the challenges facing refugees.

Organiser Jessica Ormerod said: "The event will take place in the Mary Ogilvie lecture theatre from 6pm and we hope lots of people attend.

"We are delighted that AL Kennedy and Roma Tearne have agreed to speak.

"After Brexit it appears that some people in the country are becoming more hostile to refugees.

"It's very important that the country remains welcoming to refugees as that can benefit the whole of society."
