PUPILS are dreaming up designs for fruit and vegetable gardens in a bid to get their hands on garden tools for their school.

The headquarters of Wilkinson Sword Garden Tools distributor E P Barrus Ltd is in Bicester and the company wanted to give pupils in Oxfordshire a chance to get involved with gardening.

Youngsters have been asked to design a fruit and vegetable garden in a bid to win £180 worth of tools to be used in school.

The winning school will also be visited by Lucas Hatch, who was named a young gardener of the year by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).

Wilkinson Sword enlisted gardening expert Martin Fish to provide tips to schools and to sit on the judging panel.

Mr Fish writes for several gardening publications including Garden News and Kitchen Garden and is an RHS Garden Advisor.

Wilkinson Sword garden division general manager Nick Hills said: "We are really excited about this project.

"We are passionate about getting children in the garden, and are confident that this will get them inspired and motivated about getting their hands dirty, and their tummies full of home grown food.

"We are really looking forward to seeing the designs."
