A GROUP of researchers from Oxford University has released a paper exploring whether Pokémon Go could deliver lessons in natural history and conservation.

The team, led by Leejiah Dorward of the university's Department of Zoology, noted that the augmented reality game - which sees users catch virtual creatures in real-world locations using their smartphones and has been downloaded 500 million times - has sparked 'high levels' of behavioural change among players.

It concluded the game provides 'significant lessons' for conservation and said that the desire to connect with nature is one reason for its popularity.
