HSBC has issued an apology to its customers after it appears their online and mobile banking services went down this morning (May 4).

If you struggled to access your HSBC account earlier, you were not alone as there was a peak of nearly 3,000 reports at around 10.14am on DownDetector.

Out of all the reports received on the website which monitors real-time issues and outages across all kinds of services, 57% said they had problems with mobile banking and 29% couldn’t access their bank accounts online.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter at the time, @HSBC_UK said: “Service update: some customers are having issues accessing online and mobile banking as usual right now. We’re really sorry and are investigating as a matter of urgency. We will share an update as soon as possible.”

One user replied: “@HSBC_UK cannot access my money via the app i need to move money sort it out not happy.”

Another asked: “is the mobile banking app down ? Status page says ok but not able to gain access as normal.”

This person also queried: “what's going on? Can't access the app - ' service unavailable.'”

“Nothing working online or app for HSBC. Not ideal,” wrote this account.

However, it seems the issues have now been resolved and HSBC has told its customers “services are recovering” and people should be able to use them “as normal”.

The most recent statement on X said: “Service update: our Online and Mobile Banking Services are recovering. You should be able to use services as normal. Thank you for your patience, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused this morning.”
