The creators of Sims 4 have come up with some extremely inventive and morbid ways to kill off your virtual characters, but death by hamster has to be up there as one of the weirdest. 

Death by metoer, killer chicken and Murphy bed are just some of the other crazy ways in which your sims can meet their demise in the popular game.

But one gamer has discovered that a simple bite from your character's pet hampster can result in death.

OnlyAbiDoang shared a post on Twitter (X) over the weekend with the caption: "Did you know that hamster can kill you in The Sims 4?? (skull emoji)"

He explained if you have the My First Pets Stuff add-on to Sims 4 - you are able to obtain pet rodents including rats and hamsters in the game.

You can form a bond with those pets, but if you have a negative relationship with them or ignore them it can prove fatal. 

The gamer explains: "If you have a negative relationship with them, they will more likely bite you when you play with them."

He adds usually any side affects will disappear in a few hours but if the hampsters cage is dirty it will lead to symptoms such as coughing and sneezing. 

If gets worse. If left untreated it can lead to dizziness, an uncontrollable bladder until eventually your sim will contract "rabid rodent fever" (which is contagious). 

If you don't get your sim cured, they will succumb to the disease and die "in a pretty horrifying way".

If you thought the weirdness stopped there, it doesn't. 

The Sim then comes back as a giant rabid rodent ghost.

The strange cause of death has caused quite a stir on social media with more than 450,000 people searching for the topic on TikTok and the post from OnlyAbiDoang getting over 100k on its own.
