TikTok is often the place where we see a variety of trends circulate with users sharing their own spin on them and the viral ‘girl dinner’ is no different.
Recently, a trend about a meal that is being called ‘girl dinner’ has been circulating on the social media platform and it has caught the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Jordan North.
But what is a 'girl dinner'? Let’s take a look.
What is a ‘girl dinner’ as TikTok trend goes viral?
TikTok users have been taking to the platform to share their meals which consist of ingredients such as cold meats, cheese, vegetables, olives, bread, tomatoes and cucumbers.
@alanalavv Replying to @María GM thank you to everyone who commented ‘girl dinner’ on my snack plates and introduced me to the best concept / phrase ever 🫒🧡 #girldinner #snackplate #snackplates ♬ original sound - hanana
On TikTok, the #girldinner has reached 58.8 million views so far and variations of the hashtag are also rising in popularity.
In the UK, you might know this meal as a ‘picky tea’ which usually makes an appearance in summer and Jordan North has hilariously corrected the trend by calling it exactly that.
A 'picky tea' often has a small amount of various foods, for example, you could combine salad, chicken nuggets, pizza, meat, coleslaw, cheese, potato salad.
If you’re making a ‘picky tea’, you can customise it to your taste and they often include finger-foods.
The BBC Radio 1 star took to Twitter to share his thoughts when he replied to an article from The New York Times.
The article introduces the ‘girl dinner’, explaining what the TikTok trend is but North was quick to tell them that a ‘girl dinner’ is in fact known as a ‘picky tea’ in the UK.
He said: “Hello America
“It’s called a ‘Picky Tea’
“And this is a pretty poor one 3/10”

It’s called a ‘Picky Tea’
And this is a pretty poor one 3/10 https://t.co/gfTAWOT3NU
He was also quick to rate the dinner plate, something he’s known for doing on Twitter.
As he loves making his own 'picky tea', he has also previously rated his followers’ attempts at their own, offering praise but also advice when he thinks they need improving.
