Royal Mint has unveiled it's limited-edition advent calendar inspired by The Snowman™.
The story of The Snowman™ by Raymond Briggs’ has been captured on one of The Royal Mint’s coins since 2018 and it's back again for 2021 with an extra surprise.
Due to the popularity of this in previous years, the range has been increased for this year. It will now include a Minty® piggybank, limited-edition print designed by illustrator Robin Shaw, and brand-new advent calendar.
To celebrate the launch of the commemorative collection The Royal Mint has hidden a gold coin behind door 24 in one limited-edition The Snowman™ advent calendar.
There are only 1500 advent calendars, and one lucky person will find a surprise gold proof 50p behind door 24.
Each other day contains chocolates and a Brilliant Uncirculated coloured 50p on Christmas Eve’s door.
The Snowman™ collectable range celebrates Raymond Briggs’ picture book with a new bespoke design created by Robin Shaw, award-winning animator and illustrator.
The coin itself features the brand-new The Snowman™ design for 2021 capturing the heart-warming moment James draws a smile on the snowman for the very first time, bringing the snowman’s character to life.

Clare Maclennan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint said, “Raymond Briggs’ classic characters are a tradition of the festive season for many families across the country and we are delighted to continue The Snowman™ and James’ adventures this year.
"Taking inspiration from Robin Shaw’s charming design, we wanted to make one of our customers smile this Christmas with a surprise gift of gold hidden within one of our advent calendars.
“The calendars themselves are beautifully designed and presented, with a brilliant uncirculated coloured 50p behind door 24; they are the perfect way to countdown to Christmas this year.”

Last year The Royal Mint worked with Robin Shaw to create an exclusive ‘sketch-a-long’ for fans. This took the form of an online class which provided hints and tips to help budding animators create their own Snowman drawings.
The class is still available to watch on The Royal Mint website.
