Roger Bannister, the first runner to break the four-minute barrier for the mile, has died.
The 88-year-old died peacefully on Saturday in Oxford.
On a windy afternoon in Oxford on May 6 1954, Bannister ran the distance in three minutes, 59.4 seconds – a feat many had thought humanly impossible.
