THE Waddup family played darts all night at the Red Lion pub in 1985 to raise money for Helen House hospice in Oxford. Dad Rod, mum Ross and their children, Trevor, Lloyd and Jane,scored 394,501 in 24 hours, raising £1,000.
The Red Lion was also in the news the following year when it became the headquarters of the Cherwell Motorcycle Group. Members pictured are Shaba Dedhar, editor of the club magazine, Richard Ford, chairman, and Rex Stentiford, secretary, with assistant secretary Tracy Wall on the Honda.
Pensioners watched the wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson on TV at the Butchers Arms before enjoying lunch and a cabaret in July 1986.
