THANKS for your front page about the vital police commissioner elections (Oxford Mail, October 17).
Labour would prefer the cost of next month’s election to be spent instead on frontline policing. But that’s not the point.
Labour’s Tim Starkey is the only candidate working full time as a barrister in the criminal justice system. He is against the Tory and Lib Dem 20 per cent cut in funding for the police. He will not allow privatisation to companies like G4S, who let us down so badly at the Olympics.
The Conservative candidate says he wants a chauffeur for the commissioner and is raising issues such as sheep rustling.
Only Labour will ensure policing stays focused on poorer communities, on tackling domestic violence and will deal with computer scams.
To keep the high standards of policing we enjoy in Oxford we all need to go out and vote on Thursday, November 15.
JOHN TANNER, Board Member for a Cleaner, Greener Oxford, Labour city councillor for Littlemore and county councillor for Isis
