THE Nature Effect charity is on a mission to get children out from behind television screens and into the fresh air.
But they can’t run their work on fresh air alone, so they are hoping the Jubilee Fund will help them with a funding boost.
Nature Effect was set up less than a year ago to encourage people to “reconnect” with nature.
Annie Davy, 52, from Cowley, helped set up the charity.
She said: “My previous job with Oxfordshire County Council involved talking to people about what would make them happier and healthier, and the thing that came up time after time was more outdoor space to enjoy and the chance to relax and do fun things there with their families. Connecting with nature is important for us all, but especially the young and those who may live in more urban areas, with less access to green spaces.”
The charity, which runs activity days and events for families, schools and playgroups in the great outdoors, is hoping to get a grant from the Jubilee Fund for Oxfordshire, set up in April to commemorate the Queen’s Jubilee by raising money for small local groups and projects, many of which are struggling in the current financial climate.
Charities and community groups that want to be considered for a Diamond Grant should email their details and a brief synopsis of their work to diamond@oxfordshire.org or post to: Oxfordshire Community Foundation, 3 Woodin’s Way, Oxford, OX1 1HD.
