DESPITE Witney being the home seat of our Prime Minister, Oxfordshire County Council does very little to make Witney an attractive place to visit. Besides the many recent letters about restricted parking for the disabled in the High Street and the dozens of reports of the unsafe pavements, now letters are being written about making the A40 trunk road a dual carriageway throughout.
I pushed OCC to repair the numerous trip-points in the paving close to the zebra crossing and, after a promise to deal with these, all that happened was yellow paint was applied where the protruding edges were obvious.
Nine months on and the dangerous trip-points are still there. It is the council’s responsibility to ensure the footpaths are safe, as well as the roads.
Perhaps they have pots of money to pay out for injuries sustained through their own negligence.
