I WAS proud when my local MP became Prime Minister but David Cameron has proved a great disappointment.
He came to power pledging to sort a financial crisis caused by reckless bankers. He inherited a slowly recovering economy but his virulent austerity programme plunged us into the worst double-dip recession for a generation.
Worse still, he has created a divided Britain where the poorest and most vulnerable are hit hardest while millionaires get huge tax cuts. He can’t even claim he’s got the deficit down, because it’s higher now than when he took office.
Ed Miliband’s focus on creating a fairer “one nation” society is very appealing. I am also impressed by Witney’s two newly elected Labour councillors, who are very active on the behalf of their community.
And the only candidate standing for crime commissioner in November that’s spoken to me is Labour’s Tim Starkey, who was in Witney recently.
It seems there’s only one party doing anything for me and it’s not Mr Cameron’s.
