WOODSTOCK Primary School found a novel way to raise money for an extension in 1974.
Geoffrey Miller, owner of Anne’s Pet Shop and Poodle Salon in Oxford Street, installed a metal chute into an aquarium, into which people could pop their contributions.
A lion and a rabbit appeared in the town in 1977 to publicise a 20-mile walk, which raised money for Easter eggs for children in hospital.
Geoff Lambourne and Terri Reynolds planned to take part in the walk in their fancy dress outfits.
As part of a classroom project, pupils at Woodstock Primary School checked the Oxford telephone directory in 1974 to find the most common names.
The top names were Smith (280), Jones (196), Brown (148), Taylor (147), Williams (130), Cox (102) and Davies (102).
