THE Oxford West and Abingdon Lib Dems are inviting applications for their prospective parliamentary candidate for this seat.
They claim in their advert that they have an ‘experienced campaign manager’ – presumably the same person who was Evan Harris’s campaign manager.
In view of all the recent doping scandals and drug-taking revelations which have come to light with cyclist Lance Armstrong, and Evan Harris claiming to have been a ‘recreational ecstasy user’ – a habit which made him eligible to participate in Professor Nutt’s drug-taking experiment on Channel 4 – can we expect that drug testing will now be part of the Lib Dem’s selection process to screen out ‘regular recreational drug users’ from their candidates?
Will the voters in Oxford West and Abingdon have the opportunity to vote in an open primary, as was the case with the sitting MP, and will they have the assurance of a clean drug screen?
Finally, in view of the reaction to Lance Armstrong’s drug taking, may we ask exactly how many of the Lib Dem councillors and local party executive and the agent were aware that their Member of Parliament from 1997–2010 was a recreational drug user, but failed to disclose the fact, in spite of the constant questioning of all parliamentarians by the media, including Prime Minister David Cameron, if they have ever taken drugs?
