ABOUT 4,200 runners have this morning set off from Kassam Stadium on the Oxford Half Marathon.
There was a nervous tension in the air as the runners left the stadium and went off towards Watlington Road and the Mini plant, which they will run through.
The 13-mile course then goes through Cowley, down Iffley Road to the Plain, comes back along the Thames to Littlemore and finishes back in the stadium.
This morning's field of 4,200 entrants is a big increase on last year's field of 2,000.
The Oxford Mail is a supporter of the Oxford Half Marathon. We have reporters and photographers covering the route and photos and further stories will be posted. A photo gallery will go online later this afternoon and you can see it by clicking here.
You can also follow our coverage on our Twitter feed @theoxfordmail
Hundreds of photographs from the event will be on sale via our PhotoSales website from tomorrow.
There will be coverage in Monday's edition of the Oxford Mail, plus a free eight page results supplement listing every runner who completes the course on Tuesday.
