Sir, May I endorse the comments made by your corespondent Annie Skinner (Letters, October20). Perhaps the council has more expertise than experts such as: Oliver Madge from the British Pest Control Assoc.: "This approach to waste collection has to increase infestations of flies, If councils introduce the scheme now people will not realise the full impact until next summer".
Sir Hugh Pennington, ex-president of the Society of General Microbiology: "Waste lying about for two weeks was a present from heaven for rats and more rats and mice will spread disease like salmonella".
The council members seem to have forgotten that they were elected for the people by the people.
Why does the council ignore the almost daily reports in newspaper and television detailing the problems experienced by residents all over the country with councils operating similar schemes? Is there such an urgency to introduce this scheme that there can be no proper debate?
Eric Murray, Oxford
