CYCLISTS have been warned to use lights when riding in the dark - or face a £30 fine.

From today, police in Oxford will be clamping down on cyclists who do not light up.

But anyone who does get caught will be able to get their fine cancelled - if they produce a receipt showing they have bought lights within seven days of the order.

Acting Sgt John Croxton, who is leading the campaign, said: "We are trying to educate cyclists about the dangers of riding with no lights.

"Cyclists need lights to see and to be seen.

"This campaign is part of our ongoing commitment to casualty reduction and making road users aware of steps they can take to try to keep themselves safe."
