A 50-year-old Oxfordshire man found collapsed in a street with unexplained head injuries while on holiday at the weekend has died.
Malcolm Davenport, of Banbury, was discovered in a street in Blackpool, where he had been visiting with friends, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
He was taken to hospital and put on a life-support machine, but his condition worsened and he died on Monday at the Royal Preston Hospital.
Police are appealing for help to ascertain what happened to him. A spokesman said: "He was out with friends in Blackpool for the weekend. He had been with friends in the town centre and left the Rose and Crown probably at about midnight.
"Then he was found unconscious in Coronation Street at about half past midnight.
"His condition deteriorated and he sadly died on Monday. "We are treating it as an unexplained death as we do not know what happened to him.
"That is why we are now making this appeal for information.
"It is unclear what happened to him as he had head injuries which may have come from an attack or from simply falling over."
Police are now trying to trace the last movements of Mr Davenport after he lost contact with his friends in the early hours of Saturday morning.
After he was discovered he was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, but was later transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital where he was put on a life-support machine.
A post-mortem examination into the cause of his death was carried out in Liverpool yesterday.
