WANTAGE MP Ed Vaizey is considering a campaign to get a games console in his ministerial office.
The Tory minister admitted in an interview with the Independent that he had been told by the “powers that be” not to have a console in his office at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Various items relevant to his culture portfolio already adorn his London office, including a John Hubbard painting and the Oscar won for costume design for My Fair Lady by Cecil Beaton in 1964.
Speaking about the games console debate he said: “I was encouraged not to, in case it looked frivolous. But I think I will renew my campaign. I have a television so why can’t I have a games console?”
In the interview, he also spoke about how pleased he was for Maria Miller, who replaced Jeremy Hunt in a recent cabinet reshuffle as culture secretary, a role Mr Vaizey had been tipped for.
