MORE than 1,000 people have been arrested thanks to Witney's CCTV system, according to Thames Valley Police.

The 24 cameras, which were installed in 2002, have also helped trace lost children and get assistance to people who have fallen.

Retailers and licensees in the town centre are able to alert each other and the CCTV operators about incidents via walkie talkies, which has stopped many problems escalating as well as providing evidence for police prosecutions.
