EXTRA police will be patrolling Oxford city centre from next month to stamp out booze related disorder in the run-up to Christmas.
Officers from the city's CID, robbery, burglary and vehicle crime teams will all be part of the latest phase of the ongoing Operation Birria.
From Friday, November 17, the extra officers will be patrolling the city centre on Friday and Saturday nights.
Insp Graham Sutherland, of Oxford's city centre policing unit, said: "The focus will be driving down antisocial behaviour in the lead up to Christmas.
"Our focus will be driving down antisocial behaviour, criminal damage, thefts of bikes, all the categories of crime that impact the city centre.
"This time last year we saw a 28 per cent reduction in all of those categories, so we will be really focusing on those types of crimes."
The drive is the latest initiative in a series of clamp downs on antisocial behaviour in the city centre.
Earlier this year, we disclosed how police and Nightsafe were set to put extra police in the city centre on certain Friday and Saturday nights to tackle pay-day boozers.
They have targeted the nights when they predict people will have been paid and are likely to blow their wages on alcohol and end up drunk and disorderly.
Insp Sutherland added: "Our advice to people is to come into Oxford and enjoy yourselves but be sensible about it or face the consequences.
"We have plenty of room at the Lock Em Inn."
A comedy leaflet advertising police cells as The Lock Em Inn was launched by the city's Nightsafe partnership earlier this year. It plugged police cells as convenient accommodation with lots of bars, as part of a wider campaign.
Nightsafe is made up of the city council, police and pub owners.
