Runaway Jamal Coleman was back at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, in a sealed dock as a judge said: "I'd like to see him get through bullet-proof glass".
The last time the 21-year-old was at the court, he vaulted out of the dock and escaped, despite being pursued out of the St Aldate's building by staff and police.
Jamal, who was recaptured in Birmingham last week, was back at the court yesterday. Security staff put him in court one, which has a sealed dock with a glass screen to the ceiling.
Security officers applied for him to be handcuffed, but Judge Anthony King turned down the request, saying: "I'd like to see him get through bullet-proof glass."
Coleman, of no fixed address but originally from Banbury, fled the court on October 9, moments after being sentenced to two years in jail for stealing jewellery worth £27,000 in a burglary at a Banbury jewellers. He was on the run for nine days.
Tony McGeorge, defending, told the court yesterday that it had been a "spur of the moment" decision to flee.
Judge King gave Coleman an extra six months on his existing sentence and ordered him to pay £256 costs. He said: "Even if it was a spontaneous act on your part, you had plenty of time to regret it and hand yourself in and you didn't."
