THERE was an Olympic flavour to Abingdon’s annual dragon boat race as three members of Team GB took to the water.
Silver medalists Richard and Peter Chambers joined the competitors with paddles, while British cox Caroline O’Connor beat out a steady rhythm on the drum.
The much-loved event, now in its 12th year, had to be postponed from earlier in the summer after heavy rainfail.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Abingdon Vesper, it has raised more than £300,000 for charities in its lifetime.
Club member David Wilde said: “It went very well. The weather obviously played a big part but it was a great turn out.
“We had quite a few Olympians and they were great. They were happy to pose for photographs with their medals so it was good for them and good for us.”
